Bird Watching
Our horse farm and lime plantation at Bluff Beach Retreat is a beautiful low lying grass land surrounded by dense rain forest habitat. This rich biodiversity includes many resident and transient bird species, 2 and 3 toed sloths, Capuchin and Howler monkeys.
Bluff Beach Retreat is offering a 3 hour guided Bird Watching Hike with a bilingual knowledgeable guide on parts of our 165 acre farm. We have cataloged a tremendous number of species of birds including the Keel-billed Toucan, Green Ibis, Grey-necked Woodrail, White-throated Crake, Uniform Crake, Flycatchers, Seedeaters and several species of Tanagers including the Scarlet Rumped Tanager only found in Bocas del Toro. There are also nesting colonies of Montezuma Oropendulas and Golden-collared Manakin Leks. We have a variety of Raptors and 3 different Kingfisher species. There are always some interesting bird species to be found. We meet on the BBR veranda with a coffee service at 6:30 am, then walk to the farm where the official tour begins. The birding begins with various species of hummingbirds who frequent the hotel veranda and continues with sightings along the ten minute walk to the farm. To reserve this bird and wildlife watching tour please call or email us the day before you wish to go. The fee is $35 per person in cash payable prior to the walk. A minimum of two people is required. We provide you with rubber boots and binoculars, should you desire. ![]()
