We spent 5 nights at this hotel, and we wish we could have stayed at least a month. The hotel and surroundings are beautiful, the breakfast is delicious and Steve, Karen and Ron are so helpful and friendly. The beach is just across the road, you live in the jungle and there are amazing restaurants within 5 minutes walk. We couldn’t ask for a more perfect destination for our vacation - we’ll be back soon. |

This year was my 4th trip to Bluff Beach Retreat on Isla Colon, Panama and it certainly won’t be my last. Once again, our hosts, Ron & Christine were welcoming and gracious. We managed a few excursions during our stay, but honestly, their property is so lovely (pool, beach, Playa Casita), it’s almost hard to leave it even for a few hours. We stayed in the new Playa Casita and it is lovely (all the rooms are as we’ve stayed in the main house in the past) with its own kitchen, sitting room and porch. The property managers, Karen and Steve are fantastic - Steve is a walking encyclopedia of horticulture facts and Karen taught us how to make granola from the coconut trees on the property complete with one of the staff showing us how to “skin” a coconut. They are a welcome addition to the amenities offered at BBR. I’m on my way home now, but already dreaming of my next visit to this “cottage in the jungle”. I can’t express how amazing it is to spend time at this place.

We had a wonderful stay at Bluff beach! Our only regret was that is was only for two nights. It was our favourite place we stayed during our 10 day trip to Panama and Costa Rica. The owner Ron was there and was a wonderful host and very interesting to chat with. We enjoyed a couple great meals with him at the Hummingbird Restaurant next door. Ron arranged a private boat tour with a knowledgeable guide, Luis, where we went island hopping, swimming and snorkelling, saw dolphins and sloths and had a delicious lunch at a restaurant over the sea called Coral Cay. I also enjoyed a horseback ride on one of Bluff Beach Reatreat’s many horses where we went down the beach and trails to a beautiful swimming spot. We enjoyed meeting hosts Karen and Steve the second day we were there as they had been away. They provided a lovely breakfast along with the other staff and we had an enjoyable conversation. The coffee was amazing! Ron let us in on the secret... a little cacao added to the coffee gives it a little something extra special! Our room was beautiful and we enjoyed the sounds of the ocean and jungle lulling us to sleep at night. The property has been very well thought out and you can tell a lot of time and effort has been put into all the details to make sure guests have the most enjoyable stay. Oh and last but not least, Bluff beach itself was worth the trip. We rarely saw any footprints other than our own on our walks. Beautiful sandy beach, absolute paradise! Thanks for the wonderful stay, we’ll be back

My family of 14 aged 18 to 88 gathered here from around the world for a week over Xmas and New Year. It was a wonderful place for all ages and interests. Those that wanted to sit by the pool or stroll up the sandy road to local restaurants were happy as were those who wanted to explore the archipelago, bat caves, botanical gardens and jungle. For those more adventurous snorkeling and diving were excellent as was a day on the Flying Pirates ATV's. The property is about 20 minutes up a sandy and sometimes bumpy road along the undeveloped beachfront to get there. The views are fantastic and sometimes we saw sloths and monkeys . The taxis were great and we rented 2 golf carts which we used constantly to get around and highly recommend. The managers Karen and Steve are wonderful people and they will do anything they can to make your stay memorable. Karen has Bocas at her finger tips and can set up private tours with the best guides at short notice just ask she is amazing.
The property has 3 private, spacious houses with huge decks for gathering on. (We used 2 of them and hardly noticed the other guests). They are beautiful designed and surrounded by gorgeous trees and lush flowering shrubs full of birds and occasional monkeys and sloths. Our favourite part was the indoor/outdoor kitchen which could accommodate all the cooks in the family (there were many). The staff are friendly and work hard to keep the property clean and well taken care of. We would highly recommend a family trip here and already miss the friendly caring people, the sounds of birds and waves and the vibrant colors of the vegetation.

Our family of five stayed at the Bluff Beach Retreat for seven nights in December. It was the perfect arrangement for us. With Ron's help, we decided to stay in Mariposa (three singles for our daughters) and Tortuga (right next door). (Ron also provided great guidance and assistance with our stays in Panama City, transport in Panama City, and transport to/from Panama City to Bocas. THANK YOU, Ron!) We loved hearing the sounds from the jungle howlers and birds in the morning, first and second breakfasts (the coconut granola is everything!), and the expertise and care of Karen and Steve.
We took full advantage of the pool, easy to reach restaurants (Hummingbird and Oasis are short walks away), beautiful beach (for long walks, not swims), and all of the sloths (and even a few toucans). Steve helped us arrange for two activities. One day we went to the bat cave and on a different day we went snorkeling and to Zapatilla. They were perfect adventures for us and we appreciated the how easy it was to make happen. We also took the bikes to La Piscina one day and Paki Point on another. There was no shortage of fun to be had at Playa Bluff.
Everyone at Bluff Beach who we met (Ron, Karen, Steve) work hard to build and maintain strong relationships within the community. That meant a lot to our family and added to our enjoyment.
Highly recommend!!! FAMILYDY
My five girlfriends and I were very pleased with our choice to stay at the Bluff Beach Retreat. We spent 6 nights and we were sad to leave. Karen and Steve were lovely hosts, very helpful with booking tours, taxis, restaurant suggestions etc. Nina, their dog was the sweetest girl. Loved when she came up to visit us on our large covered porch.
We loved La Playa Casita, our three bedroom house just steps from the main house and pool. Perfect private accommodations. The house is brand new, each bedroom with its own bathroom. We were a little worried about sleeping with no AC when we arrived. It was SO hot at 9pm at night but once the ceiling fans got going it was perfect. Kitchen was well stocked for us prior to arrival with drinks and snacks, however budget wise, for drinks in particular you're much better off to stop enroute to BBR at a grocery store to stock up with your own wine and beer etc. Each bedroom has its own safe for locking valuables. We rarely locked our door so it was nice to have that added security for passports, cash etc. The pool is great for cooling off, swimming laps and lounging around.
The road from the main town of Bocas to the retreat is a bumpy one but the taxis are great. We loved riding the bikes down to pachi point and watching the surfers. Had a wonderful lunch at the little restaurant there. We also loved the short stroll or bike ride down to the beach bar at Island Plantation. Absolutely the best pizza! Great service, beach chairs, drinks etc. The Oasis restaurant next door was amazing as well. We had a dinner and a lunch there, loved them both. Great gin and tonics and the best bocas lime pie!!
Lastly, the breakfasts served at BBR were wonderful and varied each day including fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, pancakes, smoothies, homemade coconut granola (you should sell that stuff!) and of course great Panamanian coffee. The girls in the kitchen were wonderful, very sweet and hard working. They also cleaned our house daily and did an amazing job. Hope to return someday!
